There has been $6.7 billion in improper Medicare payments, Banks have been fined billions of $ for fraud, etc., Cheating seems to be a norm in schools and business. The California Realtor Association is now publishing the names and photos of those realtors who have broken the association’s code of ethics and who knows what else is going on that is not making news??
Why? What is it about the human condition and seems to make these types of unethical behaviors O.K.?
Yet, haven’t we all done something in the past, that we knew was wrong and yet we did anyway? Why?
1. To see if we could get away with it?
2. Didn’t think anyone would care?
3. Didn’t think about the consequences?
4. Didn’t think what we did was that important?
Is it the consequences that should influence our choices, or a sense of doing the right thing that is missing or ignored, or is it the choice of letting our emotions dictate our behavior without regard for consequences?
The fact that these behaviors keep happening is disheartening ,yet challenges all of us to revisit our ethics on a daily basis!
